West Bengal govt forms new intelligence bureau to counter militant infiltration
According to reports, the new intelligence bureau- Local Intelligence Unit (LIU)- has already started its operations under direct monitoring of state's Intelligence Bureau (IB) department.
State's Home Affairs department's officials said that skilled police officers from Kolkata Police and West Bengal Police force have been sent on deputation to the newly formed intelligence unit.
"Like Central Intelligence Bureau's Subsidiary Intelligence Bureau (SIB), state IB's Local Intelligence Bureau (LIU) is working at the remote areas of India-Bangladesh border with an aim to monitor terrorists' movement and build up sources at grass-root level in those areas," an official told IBNS.
"As officials of our Intelligence Bureau, which has offices in every district, are usually busy with passport verification, VIP/VVIP's security and law & order maintenance, this LIU will do only their assignments on countering terrorism," the official added.
Kolkata and state police force's constables, ASI, SI and DSP rank officials will work as Intelligence Assistant, Assistant Intelligence Officer, Intelligence Officer and Deputy Director respectively in the newly set up LIU here.
The LIU will recruit its officials and staffers separately very soon, according to sources.
