West Bengal: Four killed, seven hurt as lightning strike South 24 Parganas

Kolkata, Aug 19 (IBNS): At least four persons were killed and seven others were injured in three different incidents of lightning strike in South 24 Parganas district of West Bengal on Sunday, reports said. 

According to reports, seven men were struck by lightning while playing football on a local playground at Mahishmari area under Sagar Coastal Police Station limits in South 24 Parganas district on Sunday morning.

After being rescued, they were rushed to a local hospital where three of them, who have been identified as Bapi Das, Barun Kabi and Buddhadeb Kabi, were declared brought dead.

Sources in the hospital said that health conditions of two injured persons are critical.

Meanwhile, a 45-year-old man, who has been identified as Rabi Laya, died after being hit by lightning whiling he was fishing on a river at Patharpratima in the same district on Sunday.

In another incident of lightning strike, three brothers, Ganesh Patra, Kartick Patra and Subrata Patra, were injured in South 24 Parganas' Raidighi area.

Earlier in afternoon, a heavy shower lashed Kolkata and its adjoining districts and lightning were reported from some of the areas.
