West Bengal: Fire breaks out in warehouse in Howrah

Kolkata/UNI: A massive fire broke out in some warehouses in West Bengal's industrial district of Howrah on Friday morning where about a dozen firefighting vehicles were deployed to combat the inferno, official sources said.

The firefighting personnel were doubly alerted to douse the leaping flames as a petrol pump was situated near the scene of fire at Foreshore Road, (Shibpur) where scores of warehouses were located, including that of jute mills, sources added.

There had been no casualties reported from the fire, which was witnessed around 05 00 hours in the thickly populated areas. Sources said nearly five warehouses on a single line caught fire, aided by winds from the nearby Ganges.

The sky of the area was covered by thick black smoke, which caused difficulties to locate sources of flames, they added.
