West Bengal: Fifth phase of Assembly election on Saturday
Kolkata, Apr 26 (IBNS) The fifth phase of the Assembly elections will be held on Saturday (Apr 30) where fates of 349 candidates (including 43 female candidates) will be decided through 53 constituencies.
The number of registered voters is 1,23,97,832, including 197 from the third gender.
Kolkata Port and Bhabanipur (Kolkata) are fielding the maximum number of candidates, 11 each.
Arambag and Goghat, both reserved for SC candidates, is fielding the minimum number, three each.
Bharatiya Janata Party and the Trinamool Congress are contesting from all 53 constituencies.
The Communist Party of India-Marxist are contesting from 31 constituencies and the Congress Party from 14.
The largest constituencies are: Chunchurah (electorate-wise, with 2,94,206 voters ) and Kultai (area-wise).
The smallest constituency is Kulpi with 1,94,868 voters.
During the fifth phase, West Bengal chief minister Mamata Banerjee will face the test from Bhabanipur constituency along with her key rivals Deepa Das Munshi, former Congress MP and wife of Congress veteran Priya Ranjan Das Munshi, and the BJP’s Chandra Bose, Netaji Subhas Chadra Bose’s grand-nephew.
