Kolkata, Jun 24 (IBNS): Actor-turned-BJP MP George Bekar alleged that he and his several party supporters were beaten up by Trinamool Congress (TMC) activists during a political campaign in West Bengal's East Burdwan district on Saturday afternoon.

According to reports, a large number of TMC supporters, led by a local party leader, allegedly attacked George Bekar and other BJP activists while they were holding a party campaign at Military Para area under Kalna Police Station limits in East Burdwan.

"When we were holding a peaceful 'Bistarak Yojna' campaign rally at Kalna Municipality's Ward No. 5 area today, a large number of TMC supporters, led by local Trinamool councilor, suddenly attacked us," BJP MP George Bekar told IBNS.{image1}

"Besides vandalizing my car, they beat us with rods and hockey sticks," Bekar added.

Following the incident, a heavy police force rushed to the area and brought the situation under control.

Injured BJP supporters, including George Bekar, have been taken to a local hospital.

Denying all allegations against them, local TMC leaders said that the incident was an outcome of BJP's group tussle and their party was not involved in it.

Police, however, have begun probe into the matter while none has been booked in connection with the case, according to the last update came in.
