Kolkata, May 17 (UNI): Police have arrested a BJP leader and three others, including two women, with more than Rs 24 lakh in cash during a check at the poll-bound South 24 Parganas last night.

The arrest was made around 10pm on Thursday when BJP's Baruipur general secretary Mintu Haldar, Swarasati Haldar and Namita Sardar were travelling in a car with the cash at Bahurughat under Bakultala police station in South 24 Parganas.

The driver was also arrested. Police said they are investigating the source of the cash.

BJP's district president Sunip Das claimed the party had nothing to do with the money. He said Mintu Haldar was a cable operator and bidi trader.

All the four would be produced before the Baruipur court in South 24 Parganas later today.
