Kolkata, Oct 16 (IBNS): At least six persons were killed and more than 20 others were seriously injured as a passenger bus fell into a ditch at Haripal in West Bengal’s Hooghly district on Tuesday morning, reports said.

According to reports, the Arambagh to Kolkata bound private bus suddenly lost its control near Gojar More area, under Haripal Police Station limits, and after crashing into Khajuria Bridge’s guardrail, it fell into a dry canal at around 9 am.

Local villagers and police rushed to the scene and aided the rescue operation.

Police said that four passengers of the bus were killed on the spot, while two others died in a hospital later.

“More than 20 persons are undergoing treatment at Haripal Rural Hospital and death toll in the accident may rise as conditions of few injured passengers are very critical,” a local police official told IBNS.

“We have started investigation into the reason behind the deadly mishap and a team of forensic experts is likely to visit the crash site later today,” the officer added.
