Asansol, May 13 (UNI) Two persons, one of them from Delhi, have been arrested from Asansol station for possessing Rs 1 crore in cash, ahead of 7th and final phase of Lok Sabha poll scheduled on May 19 in West Bengal.

The GRP arrested the duo, Laxmikanta Shaw of New Delhi and Gautam Chatterjee, a resident of Barasat in North 24 Parganas, when they were standing on platform No 5 at Asansol station under West Burdwan on Sunday evening.

The duo, after being produced before a local court here, have been remanded further in police custody for interrogation of money trails.

During interrogation they confessed that the money, which was for election, allegedly belonged to BJP and they were going to Kolkata to deliver it.

However, local BJP leader denied saying the duo was not linked to the saffron brigade and it was a conspiracy hatched by the TMC to malign the party.

So far about Rs 64 crores had been seized across the state during election.
