Kolkata, Jul 14 (IBNS): At least one person was killed and three others were injured in a major explosion inside a firecracker factory at Champahati area in West Bengal's South 24 Parganas district on Friday, reports said.

According to reports, the incident took place in noon at Champahati's Kanchanmath area when few men were making firecrackers inside the factory.

The factory was completely destroyed due to the massive explosion.

Local police and fire and emergency services officials rushed to the scene.

After being rescued, four men, including the factory's owner Pradip Mondal, were taken to a local hospital where one of them was pronounced dead.

According to a local police official, the deceased has been identified as Ashok Mondal, who was the brother of factory owner Pradip Mondal.

Police, however, have started investigation into the case.

"We have begun probe to know the exact reason behind the explosion and to confirm whether the firecracker factory was authorized or not," a local police official told IBNS.
