WB: Residential building collapses in Darjeeling, 15 trapped

Darjeeling, Jul 23 (IBNS): A multi-storey residential building collapsed due to heavy rainfall in West Bengal's Darjeeling district in the hills on Friday night, officials said.
 
According to reports, the four-storey building, where several families were staying, at Dr. Zakir Hussain Busty (Butcher Busty) area in Darjeeling suddenly collapsed at around 10:35 pm. 
 
Police officials, Fire and Rescue Services officials and medical team rushed to the spot. Rescue operation is currently underway.
 
Local MLA Amar Singh Rai has reached the spot and is overseeing the operation. He told the local media that Indian Army had been requested to assist in the operation.
 
"As soon as I got the news, I arrived here to take stock of the situation, and given the gravity of the situation, I decided to call the DM and asked him to send Disaster Rescue team, and have also requested Army to help with the rescue," Rai told The Darjeeling Chronicle.
 
Till the latest update came in, four persons have been rescued alive and at least 15 people, including several children and women, are trapped under the debris.
