Asansol/Kolkata, Mar 31 (IBNS): West Bengal Governor Keshari Nath Tripathi, on Saturday, met senior police and administrative officials in violence-hit Asansol and Raniganj, according to media reports.

The Governor is expected to visit the violence hit areas later in the day. reports said.

The Asansol-Raniganj belt saw clashes between two groups of people over Ram Navami processions that left one person killed and two police officers injured, media reports said.

To stem the violence, West Bengal police suspended internet services in the area and issued prohibitory orders under Section 144 of the CrPC.

According to reports, the police allegedly barred Asansol's BJP MP and Union Minister Babu Supriyo and state BJP Mahila Morcha president Locket Chatterjee from entering the area on Thursday.

On Friday, BJP President Amit Shah announced that a four-member team selected by him will visit the strife torn areas.
