Russian President Vladimir Putin will visit India in the upcoming months, a top Moscow official said on Tuesday.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov was quoted as saying by Sputnik: "Well, I hope soon ... we will work out the precise dates of his visit

Speaking on the relationship between India and Russia, he said: "We have no doubt that India respects Russia and India values cooperation with Russia, but at the same time we understand very well that India is a sovereign country. There are quite few countries in this world that can afford to be sovereign. India is a sovereign country."

The announcement on Putin's possible visit to India came just a month after Indian PM Narendra Modi travelled to Russia to attend the 16th BRICS Summit.

Modi and Putin met on the sidelines of the Summit.

Currently, Modi is on a three-nation tour.
After visiting Nigeria, the Indian leader reached Brazil to attend the G20 Summit.
