Violent protests erupt in Kanpur, Samajwadi Party MLA arrested

Kanpur/UNI: Protests against Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) got violent again here on Saturday evening when agitators torched some vehicles and hurled stones on police force.

Sources said that agitators started stone pelting in Pared crossing and Yatimkhana area and torched vehicles parked there.

Some perpetrators tried to burn shops also but police pushed them back after lathicharge. Meanwhile Samajwadi Party (SP) legislator Amitabh Bajpai and party workers were taken into custody for disturbing law and order.

It was reported that protesters died in violent clash during protest on Friday were cremated in Babupurva graveyard. Heavy police force was deployed there during last rites of the deceased.

However, two people severely injured during violent protest yesterday were stated to be in critical condition while eight other were recovering swiftly.
