Uttarakhand assembly polls: 59.37 pc voting recorded till 5 pm

Dehradun/UNI: A total of 59.37 per cent polling was recorded till 5 pm on Monday in all 70 assembly segments of Uttarakhand.

State Chief Electoral Officer Soujanya told reporters at the Secretariat that till 5 pm, 57.49 per cent polling was recorded in District Pithoragarh, 60.36 in Rudraprayag, 52.60 in Tehri, 65.13 in Udham Singh Nagar and 65.55 per cent in Uttarkashi.

He said that 67.58 per cent polling was recorded in district Haridwar, 63.12 in Nainital, 51.93 in Pauri Garhwal, 50.65 in Almora, 57.83 in Bageshwar, 59.28 in Chamoli, 56.97 in Champawat and 52.93 in Dehradun.

According to Soujanya, a total of 131 EVMs were damaged due to technical reasons in the state during the polling, and they were replaced.

He said that earlier in the morning, during mock polling, some EVMs were found to be faulty, which were rectified.

As per the CEO, the EVMs will be kept in the strong room amidst tight security, for which three-tier security arrangements have been made between the video cameras to monitor.

He said that 203 cases of Model Code of Conduct violations were registered across the state on Monday.
