Amethi:  A madrasa constructed on a piece of land meant for pasture was demolished by the Amethi's local administration on Monday, a senior Uttar Pradesh police officer said here.

District Magistrate Rakesh Kumar Mishra said that no academic work was being carried out from the building for the last two years.

Superintendent of Police (SP) Elamaran G said that the pasture land was encroached upon and the madrasa was constructed on it illegally in Gauriganj area on Tanda-Banda national highway.

"The madrasa was being run illegally for the last 30 years and its case was pending before the court for a long time," he said.

The SP said that after the court's order the madrasa has been demolished by a joint team of administration and police.

"The building has been demolished by the joint team of revenue and police departments. Debris is being removed from the spot," Mishra said.
