Uttar Pradesh: Three arrested for gold loot in Meerut

Lucknow, Feb 23 (UNI/IBNS) Three members of a gang involved in looting gold from a private gold loan company in Meerut have been arrested by the Special Task Force (STF) of Uttar Pradesh police.

STF sources said that the accused had looted gold from the Manappuram Gold Loan company in Lalkurti police station area of Meerut on February 21.

The bag in which the miscreants took the gold, had a GPS tracker, fitted into it. Police traced the location of the miscreants at Haridwar, but when it reached the spot, the miscreants fled from there.

Sources said that upon receiving a tip-off, the STF conducted raid in Khatauli area with the local police on Friday and arrested the accused.

They were identified as Bhagat Singh, resident of Sardhana police station area; Sushil Kumar and Deepak Kumar, both residents of gram Dadri, falling under Daurala police station area of Meerut.

Gold jewellery weighing four kg, Rs 8.5 lakh cash, a car and a mobile was seized from their possession.

The accused are currently being interrogated, to find the whereabouts of the rest of the gold.

Sources said that Sushil, who is a clever criminal, was a key accused in the kidnapping case of Dr Shrikant Gaud in 2017. A reward of Rs 50,000 had also been kept on his head.

The ADG of Meerut zone announced to give the reward to STF, which cracked the case.
