Gorakhpur/UNI: The All India Institute of Medical Sciences (AIIMS) in Gorakhpur was inaugurated by Prime Minister Narendra Modi here on Tuesday.

Equipped with world class and specialist medical facilities, AIIMS Gorakhpur promises to start a new era of medical and health services in the Eastern UP, along with Bihar and Nepal.

After procedural formalities and its demand since 2004, on Jul 22, 2016, Modi had laid the foundation stone for it under the Pradhan Mantri Swasthya Suraksha Yojana.

Meanwhile, in March 2017, when Yogi Adityanath became the Chief Minister, all the obstacles in its construction were removed.

The 300-bed AIIMS Gorakhpur, costing Rs 1011 crore, is now functional. The capacity of the hospital will be expanded to 750 in the coming days. With the inauguration, a 35-bed emergency ward will also come into service, which will provide quick treatment to critical patients.

The Outdoor Patient Department (OPD) of Gorakhpur AIIMS has already started from February, 2019. So far, about seven lakh people have come to the OPD of AIIMS.

With the service of 14 general and 13 special OPDs, people will no longer have to go to other cities for consultation and treatment on any disease. Not only this, from the month of May this year, patients in Indoor Patient Department (IPD) have got the advantage of medical facilities. With the admission of normal patients, more than 200 general operations have been done so far.

The new AIIMS is equipped with 14 modular operation theaters, OPD of Medicine, General Surgery, Dentistry (Dental), Pediatrics, Gynecology, Orthopedics, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Ophthalmology, ENT, Radiology, Diagnostic and PMR Hematology.

It will have Pathology, Digital X-Ray, CT Scan, MRI, ultrasound, head and neck clinic in Oncology department, Radiotherapy, Dual energy radiotherapy, Brachytherapy and a CT simulator machine at a cost of Rs 18 crore.

It will have examination and treatment of hemophilia patients, two oxygen plants (both liquid oxygen and air pressure-based), Ayush Block and a Nursing College.

People from Eastern Uttar Pradesh, as well as Bihar, Jharkhand and Nepal, will get the benefit of medical facilities of Gorakhpur AIIMS. According to an estimate, this hospital has become the largest center with world-class specialist medical facilities for a population of about 70 million.

UP Governor Anandiben Patel, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath, among others, were present on the occasion.
