Unnao, May 18 (UNI) At least five passengers were killed while 24 others sustained serious injuries when a private bus turned turtle at the Agra-Lucknow expressway in the Bangarmau Kotwali area of this district in Uttar Pradesh on Saturday.

Police said that a tourist volvo-bus was carrying about 70 passengers from Gurugram to Bihar, overturned in an attempt to save a tractor-trolley near the Jasrajpur village at kilometer number 229 of the Lucknow-Agra expressway, early morning at around 0430 hrs.

Five people were killed on the spot in the accident.

The injured were rushed to the Community Health Centre from where 7 critically injured have been sent to Lucknow's Trauma Center while others were admitted in the district hospital.

Expressing his grief on the mishap, Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath extended his condolences to the families of the deceased and gave directions for no laxity to be shown in the treatment of the injured people.

District Magistrate Devendra Kumar Pandey reached the hospital and checked upon the injured people and gave necessary directions to the doctors.

Police said that according to the information received from the injured tourists, the high speed of the bus and overtaking became the reason behind the mishap.

Following the accident, there was a jam on the Agra-Lucknow expressway. Police removed the bus from the road with the help of a crane and resumed the traffic.

The deceased have been identified as Ranjeet Yadav (46), Manish (9) and Nandini (7).
