Mainpuri, July 28 (IBNS): A dalit couple was allegedly hacked to death with an axe by a shopkeeper following an argument in Uttar Pradesh's Mainpuri on Thursday, according to reports.

The deceased allegedly owned their murderer, a shopkeeper, Rs 15, over which the argument took place.

Ashok Mishra, the shopkeeper, has been arrested since.

NDTV quoted Mainpuri District Magistrate Pramod Chandra Gupta as saying, "The villagers have told us that the couple had bought something worth Rs. 15 from the shopkeeper and that led to the killings. We have sent the bodies for post mortem and the accused has been arrested. We will take the strictest possible action against him."

The alleged murderer belongs from the upper class.
