Uttar Pradesh: Case lodged against 7 for dowry harassment

Basti: A woman lodged a complaint against seven persons, including her husband and in-laws, for dowry harassment in Walterganj area of Basti district here in Uttar Pradesh on Wednesday, police sources said.

Police sources told UNI that Kumari Snehlata, a resident of Balli Patti village, lodged a complaint at Kotwali police station that her husband and in-laws harassed her for dowry.

"She has alleged that the accused used to assault her and threw her out of the house after failing to bring a motorcycle in dowry," they said.

Police sources told UNI that on the basis of Snehlata's complaint a case has been lodged against her husband Harish Chandra, father-in-law Ramkaran, mother-in-law Gujarati, brother-in-laws Mukesh, Vikash Kumar and two sister-in-laws including Saroj under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Dowry Prohibition Act.

Police sources said that the matter is being probed by and further action will be taken after the investigation is over.
