H1 B Visa

US to start H1 B visa registration programme for 2022 from March

Wshington/IBNS: The registration process for H1B visa for the next fiscal year will start from March 9 and the selected applicants chosen through computerised draw of lots would be informed by March 31, said media reports.

The US Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS) said this in a notification on Friday after the Joe Biden administration said it will continue with the traditional  lottery system to issue the visa required by the foreign professional to work in the United States.

H-1B is a temporary visa program designed for people with specialised skills who want to work in the US. H1-B visa allows technology companies in the US to employ foreign workers in specialty jobs. This enables companies to hire thousands of workers requiring technical and theoretical expertise, most of whom are from India and China.

The USCIS said if it receives enough registrations by March 25, it will randomly pick up the registrations and send selection notifications by March 31.

The selected applicants will be able to join jobs from October 1 when the American fiscal year begins, the reports stated.

USCIS can issue a maximum of 65,000 H-1B visas and another 20,000 H-1B visas to foreign students who have finished higher studies from a US university in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics (STEM) subjects in a year, as mandated by the Congress.

On January 7, the USCIS had announced to no longer use the traditional lottery system in selecting the successful applicants for the H-1B visas.
