New Delhi, May 26 (IBNS) : Uttar Pradesh police on Friday denied permission to Congress vice-President Rahul Gandhi to visit the riot-hit Saharanpur district, CNN-News 18 reported.

Gandhi was on Saturday scheduled to visit Shabbirpur village, where Dalit houses were torched on May five.

Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has already visited the village and lashed out at the Yogi Adityanath-led state government for failing to maintain law and order in the state.

Fresh clashes broke out in the area during her visit.

Following the clashes on May 23 and 24, which left two people dead and dozens injured,  prohibitory orders under 144 Cr PC were imposed in the city.
