Lucknow, Oct 1 (IBNS) :Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Monday morning  met the family of Vivek Tiwari, the Apple executive, who was shot by police in Lucknow two days ago, media reports said..

The UP Chief Minister met the family  at his official residence. Deputy Chief Minister Dinesh Sharma, who had escorted the family from their home, was present.

The state government has announced a compensation of Rs. 25 lakh for the family. Apart from that Rs. 5 lakh has been given for his children's  education and another Rs. 5 lakh for his elderly mother.

"He heard what I had to say and assured help. I had earlier also said that I have faith in our state government and today that faith has strengthened," the reports quoted Kalpana Tiwari, wife of the Apple executive, as saying.

Thirty-eight-year-old Tiwari, accompanied by a former colleague, was in his sports utility vehicle at around 1.30 am when two policemen on patrol duty came along to question him. But Tiwari allegedly tried to escape after hitting a police patrol bike and then a wall, prompting one the policemen to fire from his service revolver. The incident happened in the city's upscale Gomtinagar area.

Senior Lucknow police officer Kalanidhi Naithani said the policemen questioned the couple because they felt “there was some suspicious activity.

The two policemen have been arrested on the charge of murder.

The cop who opened fire, said he had acted in self defence as he thought that Tiwari was going to run over him refusing to stop the car.

The incident created a stir with Samajwadi Party chief and former Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav demanding Yogi's resignation on the ground of police excesses.

Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal also attacked the Yogi Government, commenting that the ruling party in Uttar Pradesh even did not save the interest of the Hindus. However, Tiwari's wife urged Kejriwal in a statement to not communalize  the issue.
