Unsecured woman teacher’s Facebook post hits Assam assembly, a youth arrest

Guwahati, Sept 11 (IBNS): The Assam police on Monday arrested a youth who allegedly assaulted a lady teacher inside the premise of a school in northern Assam’s Sonitpur district.

Assam police had taken the step after the incident hit in the ongoing session of Assam assembly.

The victim teacher narrated overall incident on Facebook and it went viral.

The teacher said some people had assaulted her inside the premise of her school at Balipara area after she reportedly stopped them from smoking inside the school.

In her Facebook post, the teacher said some youths tried to assault her physically and the entire incident happened in front the headmaster and other staff of the school.

“While the youths were trying to assault me physically, no one had stopped them. Somehow I managed to call my husband and he came to the spot and rescued me from clutches of the youths,” the lady teacher said in her post on Facebook.

Following the incident, several organizations had raised their voice to provide adequate security to woman teachers and the incident was also raised in Assam assembly.

Opposition Congress MLA Sherman Ali said the state government totally failed to provide women teacher in the state and such type of incidents were occurred in many places.

Meanwhile, the Sonitpur police arrested a youth in connection with the assault incident.

Earlier, a lady teacher was killed by some youths after raped her in middile Assam’s Nagaon district.
