Unnao rape case: BJP lawmaker charged with rape

New Delhi, Apr 12 (IBNS): In a major development, BJP lawmaker Kuldeep Singh Sengar has been charged with raping a minor girl in Unnao town of Uttar Pradesh.

Kuldeep Singh Sengar last night visited the house of a top cop in Lucknow amid allegations of rape against him.

“When there is an arrest warrant, call me,” he told media.

Sengar said: "I just came here to prove that I did no wrong."

Yogi Adityanath-led government ordered the police to file a police case against the lawmaker.

The government has reportedly directed to hand over the cases related to the incident to the CBI.

"Kuldeep Singh Sengar, 50, has also been charged under provisions of the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act (POCSO)," NDTV reported.

The Special Investigation Team (SIT), formed to probe the Unnao gangrape case and the suspicious death of the 16-year-old rape victim's father, visited the site of the alleged crime on Wednesday to begin fresh enquiry in the case, media reports said.

The SIT was directed to submit initial reports of its investigation before Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath on Wednesday evening.

The team visited the crime spot and the tree where the rape victim’s father was tied up and thrashed.

The investigators also spoke to the victim, her mother, uncle and other family members.

They also had a talk with the suspended and other policemen posted at Makhi Police Station.

The SIT was formed on Tuesday to investigate the case after the father of the girl, who had alleged being raped by a BJP lawmaker and attempted suicide outside Adityanath's home on Sunday, died on Monday morning  at the district hospital.

The autopsy report revealed that the father died to septicaemia.

According to the postmortem report, the father was not given proper treatment in the judicial custody.

The man was in judicial custody after a complaint was filed against his daughter's alleged rapists.

The girl had alleged that she was raped by Kuldeep Singh Sengar, the BJP legislator from Unnao, and his brother last year, but the police refused to take any action against them.

She also claimed that her family was being threatened after they tried to file an FIR.

Earlier on Tuesday, the brother of Sengar was arrested by the police.

Meanwhile, Sengar's wife, who met UP DGP OP Singh in Lucknow on Wednesday, demanded a CBI probe into the matter.
