Union Cabinet approves Gaganyaan project, three Indian astronauts will be sent to space in 2022

New Delhi, Dec 28 (IBNS): The Union Cabinet has approved a budget of Rs.10,000 crore for sending three Indian astronauts to space for a period of seven days, officials said.

The astronauts will be sent to space in 2022.

Making the announcement, Union Law Minister Ravi Shankar Prasad said the mission has been named as "Gaganyaan".

Prime Minister Narendra Modi had made the announcement on the project in his speech on the 72 nd Independence Day.


It was his last address to the nation ahead of the Lok Sabha polls next year.

"Cabinet approves indigenous human spaceflight programme; #Gaganyaan programme to carry 3 member crew for minimum 7 days in space at a total cost of Rs 10k crores," PIB tweeted.
