Two poachers killed in Kaziranga

Guwahati, Nov 10 (IBNS) : Two poachers were killed in a gun battle with forest guards in Assam's Kaziranga National Park (KNP) on Monday and recovered arms and ammunition, officials said.
Following a tip-off, forest guards had launched search operation between Diffalo and Borbhag forest camp under Burhapahar range office in the park, where poachers were hidden.
 
“When forest guards reached the area the poachers started firing and bullets were exchanged, in which two poachers killed on spot,” a top official of KNP said.
 
Forest guards recovered one point 303 rifle, eight live cartridge, seven empty cartridge, a mobile handset, some foodstuff in possession from slain poachers.
 
The slain poachers are yet to be identified.
 
At least 14 poachers were killed in encounter with forest guards in the national park in this year so far.
