Two hardcore lady Maoists surrender during Odisha DGP’s visit

Koraput, Mar 7 (UNI) Two hard core lady Maoists, carrying cash reward on their head, surrendered before the Police during the visit of the Odisha Director General of Police to Koraput on Thursday.

Police said Area Committee member Madhi Sukanti (36) and GNS Commander Kaushalya Khilla alias Sangeet (20) surrendered before the Police after they witnessed the developmental activities

in their area and became fed up with the violent approach of the Maoists.

Police sources said Madhi Sukanti of Nalagundi village under MV 79 Police station in Malkangiri district was a member of Pedabailu area Committee under AOBSZC.

Daughter of a farmer, she joined the banned CPI (Maoist )party in Kalimela Dalam in 2003.

Between 2009 and 2010 she was in Podia Dalam and from2011 till now she was working in Padabailu LOS (erstwhile cut off area) under MKVB Division. She was carrying a cash award of Rs 4 lakh on her head announced by the Odisha government.

She is involved in 21 Maoists related violence including seven incidents of killings , eight incidents of exchange of fire with security personnel , snatching of EVM from Kurmanur booth , and blasting of government offices from 2003 ill October 2018.

She was also involved in the killing of ten police personnel in an IED blast on July30,,2003 near Gomphakunda.

The other lady Maoist Kaushala Khilla of Dhakadpadar village under Chitrakonda Police in Malkangiri district joined the banned outfit in Gumma Area Committee in 2016.

She is working in Gumma Area Committee under MKVB Division and was commander of Gana Natya Sangha (GNS) of Gumma Area committee and carrying a cash award of Rs two lakh on her head.

Both the Maoists said they decided to leave the banned organization due to the construction of Gurupriya bridge.

Both the lady Maoists said they realized the futility of violent approach of the Maoist and decided to surrender.

Police said both the Maoists would get monetary assistance as per the surrender and rehabilitation scheme of the government and financial assistance for building house, pursuing studies and getting training in a trade/vocation as per their choice.

DGP R P Sharma was on a one day tour of the district to review the situation in view of the coming elections when the the lady Maoists surrendered before the police in his presence.

Among other issues like cyber crime, surrender of Maoists, preparedness for the coming election were discussed in the review meeting.

Top Police officers like district Superintendents of Police of seven districts, IG intelligence, top officers of the Western range besides officers of CRPF, COBRA and BSF attended the meeting.
