Agartala, Mar 6 (UNI) Tripura police today sought 14-day custody of Nazir Shekh (25), who was arrested last night from A D Nagar area here, on charges of having link with banned Jamaat-ul-Mujahedeen of Bangladesh (JMB) and for several other anti-national activities.

According to police, during interrogation Nazir admitted that he had received training on Improvised Explosive Device (IED) and he was directly involved in few other recent crimes in Bangaluru. However, he has link with some local gangs but it could not be established yet though some of his local connection in Agartala was found.

“He has revealed some more important information during interrogation that needs further details for which we sought his remand for two weeks. Meantime, NIA has been informed about the case and hope they will also take part in the interrogation process soon,” said a senior police officer here.

According to DGP Tripura, Nazir was picked from a location here based on a specific intelligence input. He hails from Murshidabad district of West Bengal and his link with Jamaat-ul-Mujahideen of Bangladesh, which was involved in the laying of IED in Buddha Gaya during Dalai Lama’s visit last year, was established.

Police are also analyzing all aspects including his suspected link with drug smugglers based in Tripura; Shukla highlighted adding that arrest of the JMB operative from Tripura is very significant keeping in view of the ensuing Lok Sabha elections, as the visit of VVIPs has already been started.
