Tripura govt arranges evacuation of accident victims in North Bengal

Agartala/UNI: Tripura government arranged to bring the bodies of two women hailed from South Tripura who died on the spot at Coachbihar of North Bengal this morning when a truck hit a battery-operated rickshaw on Siliguri-Guwahati national highway.

According to report, Bandana Debbarma (32) of Sabroom and Mampi Das (23) of Amarpur in South Tripura were died on the spot after they were skidded out from the rickshaw and received grievous head injuries while two other passengers of the rickshaw Soma Banik (23) Belonia and Bikas Majumdar (23) of Amarpur have been shifted to Coachbihar medical college in critical condition.

The 5 -years old son of Bandana was injured and doctors stated him out of danger.

Pratap Debbarma, husband of Bandana who was accompanying her on the way back home from North Bengal told because of cancellation of trains in Northeastern states, they were going to bus stand to catch a vehicle to Guwahati. Bandana was persuading B Ed in a college there.

“They were waiting for return more than a week but fall out of CAB agitation cancelled all the trains. Finally, early this morning when they were going to catch a vehicle for Guwahati, a speeding truck hit their battery-operated rickshaw from the back. All five including the child were fell on the road where two of them died on the spot and others were shifted to hospital,” Pratap said adding that he was travelling on another rickshaw along with them.

Soon after the information reached here Chief Minister Biplab Kumar Deb directed Resident Commissioner of Tripura at Kolkata and Guwahati to make arrangement for the evacuation of dead bodies to Tripura from Coachbihar and treatment of all the injured persons.

“The injured persons would be treated in Coachbihar medical college and bodies were started for Guwahati and hopefully tomorrow morning they will fly to Agartala,” said an official of Tripura Bhawan Kolkata adding that the government has arranged everything for them.
