Trinamool MP asked to leave Rajya Sabha for day for misbehaviour

New Delhi, May 1 (IBNS) A Trinamool Congress member was on Monday ordered to leave the Rajya Sabha for the day for misbehaviour as the row on AugustaWestland VVIP chopper scam rose to a boiling point plunging the House into a chaos.

Rajya Sabha Chairman Hamid Ansari  invoked rule 255 against Sukhendu Sekhar Roy, a Trinamool Congress MP,  asking him to leave the Rajya Sabha for misbehaviour.

Raising objection to Ansari's decision, the TMC members staged a walkout from the Upper House after Roy was asked to leave for the day.

Roy demanded that Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar make an urgent statement on theAgustaWestland scandal,  centred on Indians being bribed to choose the Anglo-Italian manufacturer to supply 12 helicopters for use by top politicians when the previous Congress-led government was in power.

The TMC had on Monday given a notice in the Rajya Sabha for suspension of all business to pave way for immediate discussion on the AgustaWestland chopper deal.

The Defence Minister is to speak on the scam on Wednesday, which is when a debate has been formally scheduled on the blowout controversy.

But Roy repeatedly asked for the debate on Monday itself.

Last month, an Italian court convicted top Finmeccanica executives for paying bribes. The judgement - which considered several documents seized from middlemen that name Congress bosses including Sonia Gandhi  - has allowed the BJP to claim incontrovertible evidence of the Congress' collusion in the scam.
