Tributes paid to Indira Gandhi on 98th birth anniversary

New Delhi, Nov 17 (IBNS) President Pranab Mukherjee and Vice President Hamid Ansari paid their tributes to late Prime Minister Indira Gandhi on her 98th birth anniversary on Thursday.

Congress president Sonia Gandhi, party leader Rahul Gandhi, former prime minister Manmohan Singh and other party leaders also paid their floral tributes at the Shakti Sthal, the late leader's memorial in the national capita.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi tweeted : "Tributes to Indira ji on her birth anniversary."


A series of programmes are on the line on this occasion to highlight the contribution of Indira Gandhi towards nation building.

Indira Gandhi was assassinated  by her own bodyguards on October 31, 1984 at her 1, Safdarjung Road residence in New Delhi.

She was killed by her Sikh bodyguards more than four months after Operation Blue Star, which was launched on the Golden Temple in Amritsar.
