Traders hold strike in Kashmir
They demanded compensation to the losses which they faced in last year September flood.
A strike was called by the Kashmir Traders and Manufacturers Federation (KTMF), following which the shops and business establishment remained closed throughout Kashmir Valley.
The shops remained closed even in the interior and lesser known markets of Srinagar city.
However, the schools, colleges, banks and government offices were open across the Valley while transport also plied normally.
Traders in Srinagar led by various unions held protest demonstrations at Budshah Chowk and Press colony with slogans against the government being raised.
They said that the government hasn't done enough to mitigate the sufferings of the traders who were badly hit September floods of last year.
Interestingly, it was the first day of state government in Kashmir region after the Durbar move ended in Jammu. Traders had urged all unions to support the strike call issued by them so that government could be cornered from all directions and listen to the woes of the business community.
