Tractor with 20 farmers falls into river in UP's Hardoi
Hardoi (Uttar Pradesh): A tractor trolley with 20 farmers fell into a river in Uttar Pradesh's Hardoi district on Saturday morning, media reports said, adding that at least 13 of them swam to the river bank and rescue operations are on for the rest.
District Magistrate Avinash Kumar, who was managing the rescue, said those who swam out have identified six other people with them, which means at least those people are missing.
However, the survivors have said that there were at least two dozen people on the tractor trolley.
According to media reports, the incident occurred as one of the wheels of the tractor came out whiles crossing the bridge over Gara river.
The farmers were returning from a nearby Mandi after selling their cucumber produce.
According to eyewitnesses, the tractor lost balance, swerved, and broke through the bridge railing, taking the trolley and the farmers on it into the river.
Locals swarmed the accident site to help the police and the rescuers to get the accident victims out. Divers were also deployed to rescue the missing people.
The DM said that the tractor had not been pulled out of the water but the cranes are ready to recover it.
Downstream, nets have been put under the bridges.
