Tracks melt as train passes in UP's Lucknow; major accident prevented

Lucknow: Railway tracks at the Nigohan railway station in Uttar Pradesh’s Lucknow when the railway tracks on the loopline melted due to intense heat, said media reports.

The incident occurred when Nilanchal Express inadvertently passed through the loopline instead of the mail line, causing the tracks to melt and flatten, reported India Today.

The locomotive pilot sensed a jolt and immediately stopped the train. He then informed the control room, after which the engineering section swung into action and detected the problem and initiated repairs.

The pilot also filed a complaint and informed the top officials.

Higher-ranking officials and staff from the railway department inspected the damaged tracks and promptly directed repairs to be carried out.

The station master was notified to make sure that no trains would use the loopline to prevent any potential mishaps.

Suresh Sapra, the Divisional Railway Manager (DRM) of Lucknow, has launched a thorough investigation into the incident, the report said.

According to experts, the incident may have been caused by inadequate track maintenance.

Sources claimed that the Nilanchal Express crossed the loopline while another train was stationary on the main line of Nigohan railway station along the Prayagraj-Pratapgarh route from Lucknow, said the India Today report.

Similar circumstances were found during the initial investigation of the recent train incident in Odisha Balasore.

Authorities have taken necessary steps and implemented preventive measures to avoid any such incidents in the future.
