Top Hizb-ul militant killed in North Kashmir encounter

Srinagar, June 28 (IBNS) In a fierce gun battle with security forces one local Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant was killed in North Kashmir's Kupwara district of Dragmullah area on Tuesday, police said.

According to reports a fierce gunfight erupted in Nagri  area of the district last night after security forces laid a cordon around the village.

“When the cordon around the hiding militant was tightened, they resorted to indiscriminate firing at the security men leading to an encounter that ended up with killing of local Hizb Militant," police said.

The slain militant has been identified as Sameer Ahmad Wani, a resident of Duroo Village of Sopore Town.

Senior police officer said one Pistol and Hand Grande were recovered from his possession.

 
He said Sameer was top ranked militant from North Kashmir.
