Top Hizb commanders among three killed in Kashmir gunfight

Srinagar, Apr 30 (IBNS): Two Hizb ul Mujahideen militants and a civilian were killed in a gunfight and ensuing clashes in Drubgam village of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district on Monday, reports said.

Fifteen civilians and two soldiers were also injured in the incident.

The slain militants were identified as Sameer Ahmad Bhat alias Tiger of Drubgam and Aqib Ahmad Khan of Rajpora, sources said.

Bhat was on the list of most wanted commanders in south Kashmir.

A civilian, who was identified as Shahid Ahmad of Arihal village, was hit by a bullet during clashes near the site of gunfight.

He was shifted to District Hospital Pulwama where doctors declared him dead on arrival, they said.

Medical Superintendent Pulwama hospital, Abdul Rashid Parra confirmed the death of the youth.

He said that the youth had received serious firearm injury.

Reports said that fifteen civilians were injured in the clashes.

They said that five of them have been shifted to Srinagar for specialized treatment.

A major and a soldier of 44 RR were injured in the initial exchange of fire with the militants, reports said.

The injured were shifted to 92 base military hospital in Badami Bagh Srinagar.
