Top Assam cop suspended for revealing information of AASU office attack probe

Guwahati, Apr 5 (IBNS): A top Assam cop has faced trouble after he was suspended for allegedly providing information of investigation process of the All Assam Students Union (AASU) office attack in Silapathar to advocate of Subodh Biswas, who was arrested by Assam police in connection with the incident.

Assam Home and Political department on Wednesday suspended Special Superintendent of Police (CID) Dr N Rajamarthandan after he has attempted to severely damage and sabotage the process of investigation of the Silapathar incident through RTI.

The state Home and Political department had issued suspension order against the SSP (CID) after receiving report from the Assam DGP and the ADGP (CID) and both the top cops stated that, the SSP (CID) has attempted to severely damage, sabotage the process of investigation of a case which bears great sensitivity having public interest by providing information on the basis of an RTI application will fully keeping the whole process out of knowledge of his senior officers.

Meanwhile Assam DGP Mukesh Sahay said that, the CID organization is exempted from providing information under RTI Act as per government notification no PLA.384/2005/54 dated March 8, 2006 and no details of investigation can be divulged to anyone without the permission of the competent court.

On the other hand the official suspension order states that, the SSP (CID) has intentionally indulged in derogation of his official status and responsibilities and has committed gross violation of the All India Services (Conduct) rules which amounts to serious misconduct.

Meanwhile, Guwahati city police commissioner Hiren Nath said that, a case has been registered against N Rajamarthandan.

The suspended SSP (CID) was grilled and investigating official had seized several documents, personal laptop, diary of N Rajamarthandan from the CID office.
