TMC team postpones visit to FTII in Pune

Kolkata, Aug 23 (IBNS): The Trinamool Congress (TMC) party on Monday said that it has postponed its team's visit to Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) in Pune.

West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, in an attempt to lent her support to the protesting students, had earlier announced that she would send a team of three-member delegation consisting Abhishek Banerjee, Derek O`Brien and Satabdi Roy to visit FTII on Monday.

"Trinamool team postpones trip to meet #FTII Pune students. Hope to go later," TMC leader Derek O'Brien tweeted on Monday.

The students of FTII are protesting over the appointment of actor Gajendra Chauhan as the new chairman of the institution for over two month now.

The students of the prestigious institute have questioned the process of selecting Chauhan for the post who is also a member of the ruling BJP party.

Chauhan was well known for playing the role of  "Yudhishthira" in the popular Indian TV serial Mahabharat.

Heavy weight politicians like Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal and Congress Vice President Rahul Gandhi had visited the institute to lend support earlier.
