TMC releases manifesto for upcoming Kolkata Municipal Corporation polls, makes 10 promises

Kolkata/IBNS: The ruling Trinamool Congress (TMC), which swept the assembly elections earlier this year, is back in the race to continue with its uninterrupted two-term stint in the Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC), which will go to polls on Dec 19.

After its rival parties came out with its plans and programmes, the TMC, headed by West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, officially released its manifesto in presence of its senior leaders here on Saturday.

In the manifesto, dubbed as 'Kolkatar 10 Diganta', the party makes 10 fresh promises after completing two uninterrupted terms and three in total in the KMC.

The 10 areas which the party, as it claimed, will aim to work are 'drainage and sewerage', 'road infrastructure', 'water supply', 'nirmal Kolkata', 'civic friendly Kolkata', 'education', 'health', 'social welfare', 'governance' and 'culture and tourism'.

Speaking on her party's manifesto, West Bengal Minister and TMC lawmaker, Shashi Panja, told India Blooms, "Whenever we have an election, we dwell on the achievements of the past and in the case of Kolkata Municipal Corporation, we will highlight those achievements and also ensure that the promises are fulfilled in the future."

"... It is an extension of what we have done in the past with new things like night shelters...," Panja, whose daughter Puja Panja is contesting from Ward No. 8, added.

The TMC, which has won almost all elections for the last one decade in West Bengal, has 120 odd seats out of 144 seats which fall under the KMC.

The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), which is the prime challenger to the incumbent, has released its own manifesto a few days ago.

Releasing his party's manifesto, BJP leader Dinesh Trivedi had attacked the TMC over an alleged corruption saying, "Netaji Subhas Chandra Bose was the Kolkata Mayor. At that time, three Mayors were from President College. But under the TMC, we had three Mayors who went to Presidency Jail."
