Guwahati, June 13 (IBNS): A local court in Assam has sentenced three people to life imprisonment for a murder over the stealing of an egg.

The Additional District and Session Judge of Assam’s Hojai district on Wednesday awarded the life imprisonment to three persons and imposed fine of Rs 20,000 on each.

Reports said the incident took place at Radhanagar in Hojai district on August 18, 2014.

The three accused - Mohan Biswas, Shyamali Biswas and Mani Mazumdar - had killed Rubi Pandit by burning her alive.

According to reports, a quarrel started between the victim and the accused persons over the stealing of an egg. The convicts later entered the victim's house, doused her with kerosene and set her on fire. Later, they threw the body in a nearby pond.

“The Additional District and Session Judge had sentenced to life imprisonment all the three convicts and imposed a fine of Rs 20,000 on each,” advocate Amar Jyoti Saikia said.
