Three Kuki militants killed in Karbi Anglong encounter

Guwahati, Apr 3 (IBNS): At least three hardcore Kuki militants belonging to the anti-talk faction group of United Kukigram Defence Army (UKDA) (Martin group) were killed and another militant was injured during a fierce gun fight with army and police in Assam’s hills district Karbi Anglong on Sunday, officials said on Monday.

Security forces recovered huge cache of arms and ammunition from the area.
 
Karbi Anglong district SP V Shivaprasad Ganjala said that, the encounter took place at Jullian village, about 17 km north east from Manja in the hill district.

Based on intelligence input, the troops of 15th Gorkha Rifles and the Assam police team led by Karbi Anglong Additional SP had jointly launched operation at the remote area in Singhasan hills on Sunday morning about presence of a four-member militant group at the area.
 
“When the troops reached the area, the militants had started fire and bullets were exchanged lasting for couple for hours,” the top Assam cops said.
 
During the gun battle, three militants were killed and another militant of the group injured.

Among the slain militants two were identified as Lunkhongam and Ngulthuamson and both hailed from Churachandpur district of Manipur.

Security personnel had recovered one M-16 rifle with magazine, a 7.62 rifle with magazine, one 36 hand grenade, a Chinese grenade, 138 rounds M-16 rifle ammunition, 121 rounds 7.62 rifle ammunition, 41 fired cases of M-16 rifle, 62 fired cases of 7.62 rifle, two comb pattern shirts, one comb pattern trouser, two comb ammunition pouches, two pairs Burmese pattern jungle shoes, three torches, one Nokia mobile phone, one note book, ration items, a wallet containing bus ticket for four passengers from Churachandpur to Manja from April 25 from the encounter spot.
