Three held in Madhya Pradesh for cow slaughter, charged under NSA

Khandwa, Feb 5 (IBNS): Three men from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested over charges of cow slaughter under the National Security Act (NSA), media reports said.

The accused have also been booked under relevant sections of the Prohibition of Cow Slaughter Act.

This comes after the Congress government came to power in Madhya Pradesh.

Last Friday, the police had got information that a cow was slaughtered near Moghat in Khandwa.

"When our team reached the spot around 1.30 am, we found the cow carcass, but the accused managed to escape. Two of them, Nadeem and Shakeel, were arrested the same day, while the third accused, Azam, was taken into custody on Monday," Khandwa Superintendent of Police Siddharth Bahuguna told NDTV.

Nadeem and Shakeel are brothers and butchers by profession.

Azam is a farmer who also does odd jobs, aid reports.

Nadeem has a record of involvement in cow slaughter in the past.

He was booked in 2017 over same charges but got bail the next year.

What is National Security Act?

The National Security Act is a tough law which give provision to the government to keep people in custody for up to a year.

The same can be done if the accused are suspected of disrupting public order, endangering the security of India or hampering the country's relation with foreign ones.
