Guwahati, Oct 11 (IBNS): A tea garden official was abducted by suspected militants in Assam's Tinsukia district on Friday evening.

According to the reports, the incident took place at Shankar tea estate near Talap, about 70 km from Tinsukia town.

The kidnapped official has been identified as Gauranga Sundar Deb and he is the head fitter of the tea garden.

A top official of Tinsukia district police said that,  at around 6 pm, four masked men equipped with sophisticated weapons and in camouflage uniform entered in the tea garden in search of the Chief Manager of the garden.

"After failing to find the manager, the armed group kidnapped the head fitter of the tea garden," the police official said.

Meanwhile, police have launched an operation in the entire area to rescue the abducted person.

Police suspected that banned outfit ULFA-I is behind the kidnapping case.

The incident triggered a sensation in the area.
