Sushma Swaraj receives Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit

Barcelona/Madrid, Feb 19 (IBNS): Indian External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj on Tuesday received the 'Grand Cross of the Order of Civil Merit' from the Spanish Government.

The coveted award will be given to the Minister as recognition by the Spanish government of India's "swift response" through Operation Maitri in rescuing 71 Spanish nationals from Nepal in April 2015 during the disastrous earthquake.

External Affairs Minister Sushma Swaraj arrived here on Monday on the last leg of her trip to three nation visit of Bulgaria, Morocco and Spain.

"Honour for India! On behalf of people of India, EAM @SushmaSwaraj accepts prestigious Grand Cross of Order of Civil Merit conferred by Spanish Government in recognition of India’s support in evacuating 71 Spanish nationals during April 2015 Nepal earthquake," MEA sporkesperson Raveesh Kumar tweeted.
