New Delhi/UNI: The Supreme Court vacation bench will hear the appeal against the Calcutta High Court's order banning firecrackers during the festive season in West Bengal on Monday.

A two-judge vacation bench headed by Justice A M Khanwilkar, which also comprises Justice Ajay Rastogi, will hear the appeal filed by cracker manufacturers.

On Oct 29, the Calcutta HC had imposed a complete ban on sale and use of crackers, including green crackers.

The recent order of the Calcutta High Court bans the use of firecrackers in West Bengal during the upcoming festivities like Kali Puja, Diwali, Chhath Puja, Jagadhatri Puja, Guru Nanak’s Birthday, Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve this year.

A Bench of the Calcutta High Court, headed by Justice Sabyasachi Bhattacharya and also comprising Justice Aniruddha Roy had also, in their order, directed the police to maintain strict vigil and ensure that no sale, purchase or use of firecrackers take place during the festivities.
