New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Wednesday is all set hear 60 petitions filed against the news citizenship law passed by the Indian government recently.

Several politicians and activists, including Mahua Moitra, Jairam Ramesh, Asaduddin Owaisi, have approached the court.

“Granting citizenship on the basis of religion goes against the grain of our Constitution. Religious pluralism and secularism have been the foundation of our country since Independence,” the petitioners have been quoted as saying by Hindustan Times.

Ever since the new law was passed, India has witnessed massive protests in different corners of the country.
