Supreme Court directs SEBI to sell Sahara properties

| | Mar 29, 2016, at 11:19 pm
New Delhi, Mar 29 (IBNS) In a major verdict on Tuesday, the Supreme Court of India has directed Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) to start selling Sahara Properties to payback lakhs of investors, according to reports.

Sahara founder Subrata Roy was arrested on 2014, after his company failed to return back the money it generated from the market.

Sahara was also ordered by the apex court to repay the entire amount of INR 36,000 crore it owes investors.

The company has submitted a list of 86 properties owned by them and has claimed that it is worth approximately INR 40,000 crore.

According to the direction by the Supreme Court, SEBI cannot sale the properties for less than 90 percent of the market rate, however, if they are unable to sell it at that rate, the regulatory body will have to take the Supreme Court's permission to sell it at a lower rate.
