Supreme Court begins hearing on review petition of Nirbhaya rape case convict

New Delhi/IBNS: The Supreme Court on Wednesday began its hearing on the review petition of Akshay, one of the convict in the 2012 Nirbhaya rape case, media reports said.

The hearing was scheduled on Wednesday after Chief Justice of India (CJI) Sharad Arvind Bobde had recused himself of the case a day ago.

The CJI recused himself of the case after realising one of his family members had represented the victim's family in the Supreme Court earlier.

Justice R Banumathi-led three judge bench which also includes Justices AS Bopana and Ashok Bhushan is hearing the case now.
