Speeding taxi runs over three in Chennai

| | Oct 13, 2014, at 04:50 pm
Chennai, Oct 13 (IBNS): Two women and a man, all rag-pickers in the area, were killed as a speeding taxi swerved on to a footpath in Chennai and ran over the trio, media reports said.

The incident took place at around midnight on Sunday as a taxi, contracted by a call centre, lost its control and ran over the pavement dwellers.

Police said the taxi driver had fled but was arrested.

The driver of the offending taxi reportedly told the police that he lost control of the car when he tried to avoid hitting a cow that had strayed on to the road.

Reports said that among those killed were a 28-year-old pregnant woman and her husband.
